INTERVIEW
Why did you decide to study abroad, and what motivated you to learn language?
I decides to study abroad because of my company. It’s an international company, so we need to use English in many situations. I hope to improve my English to communicate easily.
Have you studied another lunguage before, and did you study English independently before coming here?
Yes, I started studying Japanese a few days ago. I can speak Japanese because I used to work in Japan. However, I haven’t studied English for 10 years, so it’s quite difficult for me.
What are your goals for learning English, and are you learning it for future work or career opportunities in Taiwan
My goal is to use English in my job. I am a designer and I usually help clients complete their project. In the future, I hope to work with overseas company as well.
Why did you choose CWA for your lunguage school, and where did you learn about it?
I choose CWA because it is a Japanese school, and I believe Japanese schools offer high quolity education. Another reason is that will have more opportunities to practice English there are only a few Taiwanese students.
I first learned about this school from Taiwan study abroad fair, and my advisor also recommended it to me.
How did you decide on the location of the school, and were tuition fees or costs a factor in your decision?
I chose Cebu because I visited it five years ago and really enjoyed my time there. I love the natural scenery that Cebu has to offer, so l decided to come back and visit again.
I chose the Philippines because it offers one-on-one classes, which give me the opportunity to have direct conversations with teachers and practice my English more effectively.
What are the teachers and school facilities like?
CWA is not a large school but the teachers are very professional and experience in teaching English. Whatever I have questions, I can easily get the help I need.
please tell us about your daily school schedule and how you spend your break time.
I have 7 classes in one day, starting at 8:00 and ending at 17:00. there is one hour lunch break at noon. Sometimes, I attend special classes from 17:00-18:00. These classes include listeningm grammer and singing. I really enjoy the special classes.
Are there nationalities or backgrand of your classmates divers and how is your room.
I have one group class , so I have classmate from saudiarabia. I think the domitory is really clean, and comfortable in my room
is the enviroment around school convenient?
cwa is in cebu city, near the sm shopping mall so I think its conveniet to go anywhere from there.
have you consulted with school staff and how was their response?
yes, when I face an issue ,the chinese manager is quick to find a solution.
what do you do on weekends?
I have been many places, but one unforgettable experience was when I volunteered to help indigenous childeren I cooked a meal for them ando although they had faced to hardship and lack of resorces for long time. they were always enthusiasic and optimesitic. even with small actions I hoped to make a meninguful difference.
have you experienced culture shock, and what challenges have you faced with difference between taiwan and local custom?
I’m actually very familiar with Philippine culture, so I don’t face many challenges living in the Philippines. However, there are definitely cultural differences between the Philippines and Taiwan. For example, the dominant religion in the Philippines is Catholicism, which comes with many beliefs and traditions that we don’t have in Taiwan. I find these cultural differences really interesting.
How is the adaptation to food (e.g., halal options) and the local climate or environment?
I like Filipino food, and since summers in Taiwan are also hot, the climate in the Philippines is not a problem for me. Although the environment her – not very clean,
Have you had any experiences where the language barrier caused difficulties?
Yes, I often had trouble
understanding what others were saying. But thanks to the teachers who taught me how to improve my listening skills, l’ve noticed that I misunderstand things less often now.
What is your greatest sense of achievement from the language school, and do you feel your language skills have improved?
Yes, I went from not being able to speak any English to being able to have conversations with others. I think that’s a great achievement for me.
I had a great experience, and if I have the chance in the future, I’d love to go again – but next time, l’d choose to go between October and December.
